Terms of Technical Requirements for Power Generating Modules (D1)
Opening the possibility for windmills to connect to the transmission grid
Grid code D1 defines the technical requirements for producers connected to the transmission grid. The older grid code (vers. 1.0) covered hydro- and geothermal power plants which are larger than 7 MW.
The increased interest in the connection of wind turbines and smaller power plants (under 10 MW) to the transmission grid required a review of the older grid code.
The goal of the new grid code was to define the requirements for wind farms and power plants (larger than 1.5MW) connected to the transmission grid. The grid code has been adapted according to the ENTSO-E grid code and to Icelandic circumstances where applicable. Wind farms and smaller power producers can now connect to the transmission grid when the requirements have been met.
A new draft of the grid code was sent to the Ministry for confirmation once it had undergone a review process, including Landsnet’s reaction to customers comments it.
The grid code was published on the 1st of July 2018 after confirmation from the Ministry.
The grid code can be accessed here.
