Our Board of Directors is appointed annually and has ultimate authority with regard to all Company decisions. The appointment of the Board must comply with statutory requirements on impartiality and non-discrimination. Directors must therefore be independent of the Company, shareholders or other companies engaged in the generation, distribution or sale of electricity.
Sigrún Björk Jakobsdóttir
Chairman of the Board
Sigrún Björk Jakobsdóttir was appointed Chairman of the Board at the Annual General Meeting on the 7th of April, 2016. She has served on the Boards of various companies, organisations, institutions and committees and has extensive experience in the field of tourism and local government
Sigrún graduated from the IHTTI Hotel management school in Switzerland in 1990 and worked in the tourism industry for many years, both in the hotel and travel planning environment. Sigrún was a town counsellor in Akureyri from 2002 -2010, President of the town council from 2006-2007 and Mayor of Akureyri between 2007 and 2009. She is currently the Manager of the Icelandair hotel in Akureyri.
Ómar Benediktsson was first appointed to Landsnet’s Board on the 29th of March, 2012. He has served on the boards of numerous businesses, both Icelandic and foreign, as well as other organisations and institutions, and has extensive experience in business management in Iceland and overseas.
He holds a Cand.Oecon Degree in business administration from the University of Iceland. He served in managerial positions in tourism and aviation for three decades. He became CEO of Farice at the beginning of 2012, which operates the submarine telecommunications network linking Iceland with the rest of the world. Farice is also a key player in developing Iceland’s emerging data centre industry.
Svana Helen Björnsdóttir
Svana was first appointed to Landsnet’s Board on the 31st of March, 2009. She has served on the boards of numerous businesses, organisations and institutions and has extensive experience in business management in Iceland and overseas. She holds a BSc degree in electrical engineering from the University of Iceland and earned a Dipl.Ing in electrical power engineering from the Technische Universität Darmstadt in Germany in 1987. She also holds a diploma in operations management from the University of Iceland and is currently working on a doctorate in risk analysis at Reykjavik University’s School of Science and Engineering. She founded the information security company Stiki in 1992 and currently serves as its CEO. She was the Chairman of the Confederation of Icelandic Employers and the Federation of Iceland Industries between 2012 and 2014.
